Update on children we sponsored in India

We've just had an update from Karm Marg, an orphanage near New Delhi who help to get kids off the streets. Essentially a home for children, it provides a safe refuge, a family-like atmosphere and opportunities for education, skills development and employment.

Several years ago Shared Earth sponsored some of these children. When Karm Marg first met them, they were on the streets, abused, hungry and parent-less and with no hope in their lives at all. This is what Karm Marg has recently told us about these now grown up children:
  • Rajesh worked with us in Jugaad till last year, now he is working on his own. Married and has two children.
  • Rumpi started her own business in Bangalore and she is doing fine. Married with one daughter.
  • Payal got married last month. She is working in a café as bakery head. She is a very good baker.
  • Aarti is married and living in Punjab.
The recycled cloth and paper bags we sell have helped them make a life for themselves. It’s what we try to do at Shared Earth, change people’s lives, this is a great example, and it’s wonderful to hear 14 years on that Rakesh, Rumpi, Payal and Aarti are all well.
